About Bob Hawkins
For me, photography has always been a journey. Some images are happy accidents. Some are due to meticulous planning and execution. The key has been to surround myself with and receive inspiration from other photographers who are far better than me.
They’ve taught me patience and perseverance. Getting out of that warm bed in the middle of the night to catch the Milky Way or that gorgeous early morning light. “Get there early, leave late” is their mantra. They’ve taught me to explore my creative soul (deeply buried, I thought!) through light painting still life, macro photography of flowers, and other visual experiments. I believe this is reflected in the diverse (landscapes, nature, flowers, night skies, light painting, aerial drone work, people) nature of my work. My friends have infused me with passion and determination to do the hard work required for the great shot.
The journey has been filled with moments of sheer joy and utter misery. I will always remember the visual feast of the falls of Mount Kirkjufell in Iceland. I will never forget spending two days in freezing rain on a balky horse in an effort to photograph wild mustangs that never showed!
In the end, the results must speak for themselves. Do my images move someone? Could they see them in their own space? If so, that makes me happy.
